The “solution” to global poverty isn’t straight forward – there are many pieces to the puzzle. One of the biggest pieces is Fair Trade. See our What is Fair Trade? page and read below to understand how important it is to demand that what you buy is made fairly.
Shop for what you want the world to look like.
When you buy something that was made by people forced to work in unhealthy or even slave-like conditions, you are telling businesses, “Sure, I’m fine with that.” Companies will only sell what you will buy. So as long as people are buying, a business will keep selling unethical products, trapping workers in a cycle of poverty. But, by purchasing only items that are assured to be made fairly, you are using your power as a consumer to demand fair conditions for workers worldwide. Providing the poor with a stable, fairly paid job is better than giving them short term aid, and will allow them to lift themselves out of poverty for good. It really works, so start shopping for a better world today!
